Horseback Riding

Horseback riding and camping are great ways to explore over 90,000 acres of rolling grasslands and forest at the Bessey Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forest. There’s no better place in the world to leg-up your horse than in the Sandhills.  You can ride for-ev-er and probably never see a rock so “barefoot” is fine with lots of open prairie for riding.

Bring your horse and your friends and camp at the Natick Campground The campground is available on a first-come, first served basis. In addition to 12 horse paddocks, there is a stock water tank, fire rings, picnic tables and modern vault toilets.  Whitetail Campground is also set-up for horse camp but it is a shared use campground with ATVs.

This fall enjoy a guided Trail Ride in Nebraska’s scenic Sandhills and support the State 4-H Camp in Halsey. This year’s 4-H Trail Ride will be Oct. 7, 8 and 9.

Enjoy delicious meals, family activities, and evening entertainment.  Live and silent auction proceeds will benefit the 4-H Camp. Cabins are available at the 4-H Camp, as well as campground spaces with water and electric hookups.  Prefer a hotel room- there are local hotels near the trail ride.  Certified weed free hay and pens are available for the horses.
